What to Expect at Your Biometrics Appointment

Latest News

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services  (USCIS) requires a biometrics appointment as part of the process for many types of immigration applications.

Here’s what to expect at your biometrics appointment:

Appointment Notice

You will receive a notice (Form I-797C, Notice of Action) a few weeks before  your appointment. This notice will include the date, time, and location of your Applicant Support Center (ASC). In addition, the form will explain how to change your appointment if you cannot attend. However, rescheduling or missing the set appointment will cause delays in processing your application, so do your best to attend the appointment.

What to Bring

You only need to bring your appointment notice and a valid form of photo ID (driver’s license, passport, etc.). The appointment will last around twenty minutes, not including the waiting time.

Arrival Time

The staff at your ASC will operate on a “first-come, first-serve,” so you should arrive early. Immediately notify a staff member of your arrival.  And be prepared to fill out a few forms and verify the information in your application.

Biometrics Collection

The ASC staff  will take your fingerprints, your photo, and a capture of your signature and send them to the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation  (FBI). The FBI will use the biometrics to screen for any criminal or immigration violations.
