Extension and Redesignation of Syria for TPS

Latest News

The Department of Homeland Security announced the extension and redesignation of Syria for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months, from Oct. 1, 2022, through March 31, 2024.

The extension of TPS for Syria allows approximately 6,448 current beneficiaries to re-register to retain TPS if they continue to meet TPS eligibility requirements. It is estimated that approximately 960 additional individuals may be eligible for TPS under the redesignation of Syria. This population includes Syrian nationals in the United States in nonimmigrant status or without immigration status.

Syria’s 18-month extension and redesignation will go into effect Oct. 1, 2022. Refer to the Federal Register notice for procedures necessary for an individual to re-register and renew their Employment Authorization Document (EAD) or submit an initial registration application under the designation and to apply for an EAD.

DHS will plan and coordinate outreach opportunities regarding the extension and redesignation of Syria for TPS to provide information and answer questions from the public.
