Badmus Law Firm Awards Scholarship to Dallas Hispanic Youth

Latest News

On June 17, 2011, Badmus Law Firm awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Matthew Jauregi, winner of a speech contest conducted during the Dallas Hispanic Youth Institute (HYI), an affiliate of the Hispanic College Fund. HYI in conjunction with Southern Methodist University (SMU) hosted 200 high school students from the Dallas/Ft. Worth Area and across Texas at a four-day, three-night college empowerment program on SMU’s campus. The program taught student how to overcome both real and perceived barriers to college access. The students participated in college and career workshops, connected with local Hispanic professionals, met college admissions officers, interacted with near-peer mentors, listened to inspirational speakers, and competed for scholarships.

Badmus Law Firm’s scholarship was funded by proceeds from its First Annual Immigrant Journey Awards luncheon held earlier this year. The awards program honored notable DFW immigrants, Gloria Rubio and Jose Fuentes, owners of Gloria Restaurants, Oscar Pareya, FC Dallas assistant coach, and others. “Our firm is very pleased that the outstanding success of our awards program allows us to offer a scholarship to deserving DFW youth and help fulfill their American Dream as our honorees have realized their ambitions in the United States,” said Ann Massey Badmus, the firm’s founder. In addition to the scholarship, the firm gave students advice about careers in law during the HYI College and Career Fair.

Badmus Law Firm is a Dallas-based law firm that helps immigrants nationwide get the government approval they need to live and work in the United States. It will present its 2nd Annual Immigrant Journey Awards program in March 2012. For more information, visit https://badmuslaw.com/immigrant-journey-awards/.
