USCIS Updates Criteria and Policy for Requests to Expedite Application

Posted by Badmus & Associates | Jan 25, 2022 | 0 Comments

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has updated the USCIS Policy Manual to reflect new guidance on how it determines whether a case warrants expedited treatment. The new guidance is effective immediately.

The policy update:

  • Clarifies the criteria and circumstances of expedite requests from nonprofit organizations as determined by the Internal Revenue Service;
  • Provides additional examples of when USCIS may consider expedite requests made by federal, state, or local agencies, including labor and employment agencies;
  • Adds examples to further illustrate how the expedite criteria relates to emergencies and urgent humanitarian reasons; and
  • Explains that some circumstances may affect or delay our ability to expedite an application or petition.

For more information, see the How to Make an Expedite Request page on the USCIS website.
