Attorney Claudine Umuhire Gasana, joined the Badmus team in September 2010. Mrs. Umuhire Gasana holds a Masters (LLM) degree in International and Comparative Law from SMU Dedman School of Law. She obtained her law degree from Université Libre de Kigali (Rwanda) in July 2003. Claudine is also licensed to practice law in the state of New York.
Claudine began her legal career in November 2003 working with Rwanda Ministry of the Local Government working on aslyum cases. As a Legal Counselor, Claudine’s achievements included drafting the National Policy on refugee protection, implementing the creation of refugee identification cards and presenting a speech before the European Council on African women and their conditions while in refugee camps.
Claudine volunteers with the Human Rights Initiative translating for indigents in immigration court proceedings. As an immigrant, herself, Claudine has a passion for immigration law that stems from her personal experience, as well as, her work with refugees.
Claudine is fluent in French, Kinyarwanda and Swahili.
